Instead, the platform was flooded with posts carrying the phrase “Trump Is Dead”, leaving users searching for explanations and official clarifications.
The sudden trend raised a big question: was it sparked by concerns about Trump’s health, or did it emerge from recent comments made by Vice President JD Vance and The Simpsons creator Matt Groening?
JD Vance’s Interview and the Health Angle
The buzz began shortly after Vice President JD Vance gave an interview to USA Today on August 27. When asked if he was prepared to take over as commander in chief should a “terrible tragedy” occur, Vance reassured the public that Trump, now 79, remained fit and energetic.
“He’s the last person making phone calls at night and the first person making calls in the morning,” Vance said. While he admitted that tragic events can never be ruled out, he emphasized his confidence in Trump’s health and ability to serve his full term.
Vance’s remarks, particularly around presidential succession, are believed to have fueled speculation online. The discussion was further amplified by Trump’s recent health disclosures. In July, the White House confirmed that he suffers from chronic venous insufficiency, a condition that leads to leg swelling. The trend gained another push from comments made by The Simpsons creator, Matt Groening, during San Diego Comic-Con in July. Speaking about the future of the long-running animated series, Groening told Variety that there was “no end in sight” for the show—unless Donald Trump died.
“When you-know-who dies, The Simpsons predicts that there will be dancing in the streets,” Groening quipped, before joking that President JD Vance would probably ban dancing.

This is not the first time false reports of Trump’s death have gone viral. In September 2023, Donald Trump Jr.’s X account was hacked, and a fake message was posted claiming that Trump had died and that Trump Jr. would run for president.
